Patients are able to request an updated Script or Referral from their GP via our website or the AMS Connect app, within the parameters of our Script & Referral Policy:
- Attended an appointment within the last 6 months (or within the last 12 months for the Oral Contraceptive Pill), and
- The request is for a repeat prescription of one regular, continuing medication or a re-referral to a specialist for ongoing care
There is a $30 fee for this service. There are a number of clinical and administrative steps required in the process of generating a repeat prescription or referral and this fee is in recognition of this.
Expect a 2 to 4 business day turnaround time. A script or referral needed more urgently will require an appointment.
It is at each doctor’s discretion whether or not they are able to complete your request. In some circumstances, you may be asked to come in for an appointment instead, even if you meet the criteria above, to ensure proper management of your healthcare.
It is illegal for doctors to backdate a referral. Please ensure you have a current referral prior to any specialist appointments.
Due to state regulations and to ensure medicine safety, the following prescriptions are unable to be renewed via this online service:
- Strong pain relief medications (e.g. Morphine, Oxycodone/ Endone, Tramadol, Tapentadol/ Palexia),
- Sedating medications (e.g. Diazepam/ Valium, Temazepam, Oxazepam/ Serepax, Lorazepam/ Ativan), and
- Stimulant medications for Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (e.g. Methylphenidate/ Ritalin/ Concerta, Dexamphetamine, Lisdexfetamine/ Vyvanse)
