World Osteoporosis Day
Osteoporosis is a condition characterized by weakened bones, increasing the risk of fractures. It often develops silently over years, typically without symptoms until a fracture occurs.
Key risk factors include age, gender (more common in women), family history, low body weight, certain medications, and lifestyle factors like smoking and excessive alcohol consumption.
To become aware of any potential risk factors, take the IOF Osteoporosis Risk Check.
If you are over the age of 50 and you have one or more risk factors you should discuss these with your doctor and ask for an assessment of your bone health status.
