IUD Insertion/Removal
An intrauterine device (IUD) is a contraceptive device that is inserted into the uterus. IUDs can last for 5 to 10 years depending on the type used.
Prior to booking in for an IUD Insertion, you are required to have a Pre-Insertion Consultation with your doctor to discuss the procedure & if an IUD is suitable for your individual circumstances. A prescription for the IUD will also be provided to you during this consultation. Ensure you take this prescription to the pharmacy prior to your IUD Insertion appointment & bring the device with you on the day.
Please allow a minimum of 60 minutes for the IUD Insertion appointment. This includes time for the doctor & nurse to discuss the procedure with you beforehand as well as time for the nurse to monitor you after the insertion is complete.
IUD Removal appointments are booked as a standard 15 minute consultation.
Please note that only Dr’s Pearl Mak & Sumudu Cooray can perform IUD insertions.

Implanon Insertion/Removal
An Implanon is a contraceptive device that is inserted under the skin of the inner, upper arm. It will last for up to 3 years before it needs to be replaced.
Prior to booking in for an Implanon Insertion, you are required to have a consultation you’re your doctor to discuss the procedure & whether or not an Implanon is suitable for your individual circumstances. A prescription for the Implanon will also be provided to you during this consultation. Ensure you take this prescription to the pharmacy prior to your Implanon Insertion appointment & bring the device with you on the day.
Please allow a minimum of 30 minutes for the Implanon Insertion/Removal appointment (or 45 minutes for a Removal & Re-insertion).
Please note that only Dr’s Pearl Mak, Jane Healy, Sumudu Cooray, Jadwiga Kapusta, Lisa Prichard & Min Teo can perform Insertion/Removal procedures.
